Domestic Solar Panels Ireland
Domestic PV Panels for solar electricity in your home
What do I need to know when considering PV Solar Panels?
Materials
-
Number of Panels: The number of solar PV panels you put on your roof should be dictated by
-
a) how much room you have on your roof, and
-
b) sizing a system that will meet your demands to generate renewable electricity.
Generally speaking, when looking to install solar pv panels, we recommend a minimum of 6 solar panels. In LVP, we have a number of options when it comes to solar panels, the output of these panels ranges from 390W to 450W electricity output from solar electricity. The datasheets for some of our solar panels available can be found on our brochures page here.
- Water diverter option: Excess electricity generated from your solar pv panels can be used to heat a solar water immersion. This is used purely as a surplus device, and would ordinarily be fitted in some of our smaller applications when batteries are not deemed a financially viable option. (It should be noted that most of our thermodynamic solar hot water range systems contain an inbuilt hot water diverter)
- Batteries: In LVP, we supply batteries in a number of different sizes. Our batteries range in capacity from 5KW upwards. Most of our batteries can have additional batteries of the same size added, should you wish to increase your storage options in the future. We generally only recommend batteries if you are installing in excess of 10 solar PV panels on the roof, since otherwise, you aren’t likely to generate electricity enough to make use of the battery storage.
-
Optimisers: Occasionally, we come across applications where a number of solar panels are in shade for part of the day. In this situation, we can fit optimisers in order to limit the impact that this shade will have.
Planning your solar PV system
There are some considerations when planning your PV solar panels system. Planning restrictions have been lifted, but we must still take a number of factors into consideration when planning your solar panel system, such as the distance from the edges of roofs that the panels must be. The LVP design team can advise on this.
Savings
The amount that you save on energy bills by installing solar panels will generally vary, dependent upon the size of the array installed, and the utilisation of all energy used. 1KW of Solar Panels will generally provide between 800 and 1000KW of free electricity. SEAI Solar PV Grant for solar panel installations
- Support for solar technologies is available to all owners of dwellings built and occupied before 2021 and where SEAI have not previously provided support for solar PV system at that address.
- €800 for every kWh up to max 2kWp.
- €250 for kWh 3 and KWh 4.
- Maximum Grant of €2100.
- Only an installer who is on SEAI’s Renewable Installers Register for solar panels can certify the installation of a solar PV System.
- Once your installed solar energy system is ready to go, you will need to get a new BER assessment. LVP will arrange this and cover the cost of this service.
